Watch in high quality (480p). California was in for another round of rain. The state really needs all the rain (and snow) it can get since this winter has been abnormally dry so far and a good chunk of the state was already under a moderate drought. So, in this video, it first shows the day of Monday, February 6, 2012. This day, we experienced cooler conditions as well as significant high cloud cover along with breezy conditions, with winds coming from the south. Since of this mild winter, many trees were already blooming around my school at EVC! This storm, although not a major one, would bring decent rainfall to the state of California, including San Jose, CA. We really needed as much rain as we can get. The clouds and winds increased as this storm's cold front approached our region. The skies looked ominous during the late afternoon indicating that there was really a storm brewing just off the coast of California. By late evening and into the very early morning hours the next day (Tuesday, February 7, 2012), the cold front finally came through our region, dropping decent, ample rainfall along with pretty gusty, southerly winds, especially along the Central/South Central coast of California. There's also a satellite imagery to show you how this storm looked like from space. It was definitely headed towards California! Then by 1:10 a.m., I was on the highway of Interstate 680 northbound. Rain began to fall once I reached Milpitas, CA. The raindrops were pretty large, although not falling pretty heavily. Then I decided to head back closer to home since I was using my dad's car and it was already only 1/4 left of fuel! My sister used my car for her "night shift" preceptorship at O'Connor Hospital. You can see a glimpse of San Jose from up high while on the ramp, heading down towards U.S. Route 101. Once back close to home, I stopped by Eastridge and waited for the winds to slowly increase. The rains also lit up a bit so now it was mainly the wind as the scenario. The cold front was finally passing over our area at this time of the winds' increase. But then, the rains started to come down a bit harder this time, with the winds slowly increasing still. Therefore, windswept rain was encountered throughout the region, especially through the hours of 2 - 4ish a.m. Trees began swaying like crazy just after 2:15 a.m. The video then continues to show wind and rain continue to batter our area during the frontal passage. Then coming around 3 a.m., the strongest gusts of wind (while out and about) was encountered. In person, I saw many trees sway and bend almost as if the winds were almost tropical storm force!! Unluckily no daylight so all I got was the palm trees bending. It was then already passed 3 a.m. and I was getting tired as well as very low on gas so I had to call it a night. However just when I was falling asleep, the winds suddenly increased ever-so more outside by around 4:30ish a.m. The winds were occasionally gusting over 40 mph at that time. It felt like the house was going to blow over or something. The evergreen trees just across from our house swayed violently, indicating these winds were quite strong. I figured that this was the final frontal passage before this cold front finally begins to leave our area. If only it was day... The remainder of the video shows the day of Tuesday, February 7, 2012. It just simply shows our area getting very light rain along with mostly cloudy skies. This storm system was slowly departing our area around this time. I was enjoying the last minute beautiful skyscapes and views of this departing storm since it might be a while again for a decent storm to hit us...
